Nile Valley

6 Chapel Street, EH8 9AY, Edinburgh

4.5 from LaurenG on August 30th, 2010 (1 week ago)

I love the Nile Valley! I have been eating here for years on my regular visits to Edinburgh and have always found it to be fantastic. It has a really genuine feel to it. While the surroundings are a bit rough and ready, this adds to the experience. It's all about the great food and warm atmosphere here. It's bring your own bottle, which keeps the bill very reasonable for the quality of the food. My favourites are the babaganoush to start and the Aswad Mossaga (a bit like a Sudanese version of Mousakka). This is a perfect place to enjoy a leisurely evening, sharing a host of delicious dishes with friends, finishing up with a clay pot of Sudanese coffee!

Aspen Bar and Grill

I chose Aspen as my local throughout the festival. Before making my journey home, I'd like to thank the fine folk at Aspen for taking care of me so well. I found the staff and management to be nothing but pleasant, fun and helpful, particularly during an extremely busy time. The food was lovely and I felt they made a genuine effort to produce something fresh and original. I would recommend the jambalaya and the mojitos. I'll definitely be back next year. Thanks again!

Excellent bar and restaurant - efficient, friendly management and staff, good food and reasonable prices. Well worth a visit or two (or six!).

The Prince of India

I have been going to this restaurant for years. The food is excellent and the service good. It is often less busy than it deserves to be maybe because of its geographical location but I have no hesitation in recommending it. I don't know why one or two people above gave adverse reviews - the majority above who say it is great are much more accurate. Great food - go there!

Beirut

last week we went to try the first Lebanese restaurant in Edinburgh. I didn't know what to expect as I never had Lebanese food before. The decor is very nice and modern where you can tell an effort been made. The food was really nice, tasty and different. Price-wise it was ok as you get free bread and free rice with your main course. The staff were really nice and friendly and the service was good. I will definitely recommend it to friends.

Beirut

I've been waiting for this place to open for ages as I love Lebanese food. I went there on Saturday night, the place was full and we had to wait more than 25 min to get a table. It took a fair bit of time for the food to come but it was realy worth the wait. I had falafel for my starter which was delicious, for main course I had lamb shawarma which was so nice and tender where it just melts in your mouth. Not to forget the amazing fresh strawberry juice. It's not cheap but worth every penny. I'll definitely go there again.

There has been much hype surrounding Edinburgh's latest culinary addition, and sadly it failed to live up to my expectations. The menu was limited due to it being the festival, which I can understand, however the festival can not be used as an excuse to serve up substandard food.

I ordered a selection of hot and cold Mezzes: Humous, Okra, Halloumi, "Beirut Salad" and Falafal. What I got was nothing short of take away food on a plate, and if you go see for yourself you'll see I'm not exaggerating! If you like iceberg lettuce then you'll love Beirut, however if you have any idea of what delights Lebanese/Middle Eastern food can offer you will be severely disappointed.

On the upside the service was fantastic and yes maybe they are just finding their feet but personally I wouldn't waste my time here.

Aspen Bar and Grill

4.5 from Amanda Nicholson on August 27th, 2010 (1 week ago)

I never post on review sites as they tend to be places where people who feel aggrieved post.

I must say I love Aspen. Given that it is a near City Centre bar the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. I have never found the staff to be anything other than helpful and cheerful. They always go above and beyond and they obviously do a good job given the welcome we always receive.

The food is tremendous value, the cocktails are excellent and the wine is really good value if you compare the price and quality of wines in other premises around.

It frustrates me when I read bad reviews like the 2 previously as the guys in Aspen are great and one of the main reasons I go regularly.

Locanda De Gusti

The newly refurbished restaurant is sleek and stylish whilst at the same time keeping the charm of an intimate Italian restaurant and the authentic food was a breath of fresh air to Edinburgh's 'pasta and pizza' Italian restaurant culture. A small interesting menu catered for everyone in my family and the prices kept the smile on my fathers face at the end of our meal. The freshest fish Ive had without catching it myself and all delivered with a big Italian smile on it. Very very enjoyable experience.

Yum Yum HK Diner

13 West Richmond Street, EH8 9EF, Edinburgh

I moved from HK to Edinburgh more than a year ago and had not found a single decent Chinese restaurant until Yum Yum. I had given up hope until I happened upon this place and saw Chinese eating I inside. The food is authentic HK style Chinese food. I will definitely go back.
